A peek inside the mind of BLAP
  • NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL

On Friday, July 19th, Saturday, July 20th, and Sunday, July 21st, Northern California’s newest music, art, food, and visual experienceNORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL – will take place at Cook’s Valley Campground, on the Mendocino/Humboldt county line. Set in the midst of California’s Redwood forest sanctuary and adjacent to the beautiful fresh water of the Eel River, Cook’s Valley Campground is a truly unique property that has been home to many festivals and cultural events in the past.

BLAP PRODUCTIONS, the minds at the lead of NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL, are honored to host their own vision & contribute a new brand of positive energy to this beautiful locale. To produce this event, they will be working closely with World Famous Productions based out of Arcata, CA who for the past five years, have been creating premiere concerts, North of the Bay Area in Redwood Curtain. Watch their festival preview here.

Since its inception, NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL has set itself apart with a fresh perspective and a unique approach to festival sound design. Influenced by BLAP PRODUCTIONS’ innate passion for tropical bass & dancehall selections – two brands of sound often missing on the mainstream festival circuits – the NNMF line-up presents a distinct collection of talented innovators & dedicated showcases; offering attendees a rare opportunity to experience globally-circumventing and indisputably summer-inspired sounds in an outdoor festival setting. Precisely where they are meant to be enjoyed.

In addition, the just announced NNMF ARTIST LINE-UP features a mix of illustrious talent from around the world as well as inspiring sounds sourced right from the West Coast’s own treasure trove of sonic genius. The artists will present their tastemaker-minded sets & live performances, over the course of three days & nights, across two well-sounded stages.

In addition to a kaleidoscope-wide array of distinctive dance music styles, the inaugural festival will be a three-day camping, local culture, and visual experience, that will play host to a carefully-curated collection of local food merchants, craft beer & boutique wine suppliers, complimentary mind & body workshops, creative design, and more.

In a proactive effort to minimize negative human impact on the venue and its surrounding environment, NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL will be implementing different festival-wide ecological initiatives, presented under their TRACELESS PROGRAM: a collective commitment – shared between the producers, staff & all attendees – to reveling responsibly and leaving the land free of human TRACE.

In order to ensure the success of these sustainable measures, NORTHERN NIGHTS MUSIC FESTIVAL will be offering a number of different resources from Carpooling incentives, transportation options & community meet-ups, to a variety of Earth-friendly products available for purchase at the onsite NNMF General Store, and more to be announced.

    About Northern Nights Music Festival:
Northern Nights was founded by BLAP Productions, an SF-based event production company. The BLAP squad and their supporters decided to take matters into their own hands when it came to events and social networking. From pop-up events at Dolores Park to yachts to events at lounges and clubs, to producing and promoting festivals, their deep knowledge of the current music industry and its history has gained a significant following of friends and young adults across California. NNMF offers an organic appreciation for music and a high level of respect and support for like-minded production companies, performers, promoters, and owners. The focus is to not only give people what they want and what they know, but to educate them about emerging sounds from around the world, in an environment they can call their own.

    About Cook’s Valley Campground:
Simply put, Cook’s Valley Campground is a rare gem: a breathtaking locale that amazingly juxtaposes a spiritual feeling of remoteness with surprisingly easy accessibility. It is truly a site unlike any other you’ve ever experienced. Adjacent to US Highway 101 on the Humboldt – Mendocino county border in Northern California, this location has been highly regarded over the decades for its wellspring of culture and resources; delicately nestled in the Redwood forest or as we like to call it the “infinite Redwood Curtain,” along the Eel River.

Host to many successful events in the past, Cook’s Valley Campground offers an incredibly remote feeling setting, with optimal accessibility that is sure to offer a unique experience for both well-seasoned festival campers and the most outdoorsy-challenged newcomers alike. Cook’s Valley features deep swimming holes, large & open landscaped grass areas and the largest Redwood grove in the valley designated for safe camping.

  • [Wintersalt Artist Spotlight] THEOPHILUS LONDON

Brooklyn MC Theophilus London is a part of that rare breed of people born to be an entertainer – a performer & fashionista, with swag written from head to toe and a name you won’t forget.

Originally from Trinidad in the southern most point of the Caribbean, London’s international roots began with tours the Caribbean and Americas, drawing his inspiration from OG pop hipsters like Prince and Michael Jackson as well as the new wave of Elvis Costello and The Smiths. Theo burst onto the scene in ‘08 with a series of mixtapes beginning with his 2008 “I’m Not Like the Rest of Them” “JAM” release, followed shortly by the heavily Smiths influenced tape “This Charming Mixtape” in ’09 – a clear demonstration of TL’s cross-over potential and, well, charm. The result has been described as a “Bloc Party meets Kid Cudi light electronica remixtape,” with hits like,“CPU Love” – which boasted London’s lyrical swag on Kraftwerk’s “Computer Love” synths while “HumDrum Town” took the Smiths – “William, It Was Really Nothing” into an indie hiphop-soul anthem.

With the success of Charming, growing fan base and signing to Warner Music Group, TL continued to polish his electronica-indierock –Brooklyn-soul-hop party crossover sound with his 2011 debut full length album “Timez Are Weird These Days”. Hits like “All Around The World” and “Last Name London” shot through the blogosphere like wild fire, praised by Rolling Stone and Spin and catapulting the young artist into a light he was made for:

Over the past few years his fans have been privileged enough to see TL’s musical and celebrity hipster style grow and mature, staying true to his self-proclaimed freshness that “all starts with what’s comfortable” – as in that comfortable feeling when being featured in GQ, Esquire, Vogue, NY Times, Complex, Fader and NME.

In April 2012, Theophilus London let the sun set on Timez into the powerful EDM-infused remix album Timez Are Weird These Nights featuring flips from heavyweight dubstep producer Skream, Italian jumpstep duo Crookers remix of “Stop It” and nudisco champion Fred Falke flip on “Love is Real.”

This past summer Theo also hit a note at the ever growing Mad Decent Block Party, alongside Wintersalt performers Dillon Francis and Paper Diamond. On a scale from shy and frugal to loud and lavish, the Brooklyn-rapper turned international crossover debonair has a big spending, soundsystem-thumping live performance ready to bring to us at Wintersalt on Saturday Dec. 29th.
